- Is the Kinetico Signature Series 735 the right size for my home?
The Kinetico Signature Series® 735 is rated for water with up to 40 grains per gallon (gpg) of compensated hardness, so it's the right fit for many homes with hard water. For comparison, the Water Quality Association classifies water above 10.5 gpg as very hard.
The 735 uses two 7" x 35" tanks, each holding 0.50 cubic feet of softening media. Sizing also depends on iron, your household size, and how much water you use each day. If your water is harder or your household uses a lot of water, the larger Signature Series 935, rated for up to 60 gpg, may be a better fit.

- What is the difference between the Signature Series 735 and 935?
The Kinetico Signature Series® 735 is the more compact of the two Signature Series models, with smaller tanks and a lower hardness rating than the 935. The 735 has 7" x 35" tanks with 0.50 cubic feet of media per tank and handles up to 40 gpg of compensated hardness.
The 935 has 9" x 35" tanks with 0.75 cubic feet of media per tank, 50% more, and handles up to 60 gpg. The 735's backwash flow rate is 1.4 gallons per minute, compared with 2.0 gpm for the 935. Both are non-electric, twin-tank, on-demand softeners that operate at 15 to 125 psi and regenerate with soft water.
- Why does my Signature Series 735 regenerate during the day?
The Kinetico Signature Series® 735 regenerates whenever it's needed, day or night, because it runs on demand rather than on a timer. Single-tank, electric softeners are usually set to regenerate at night because they can't supply soft water during regeneration.
The 735 has a built-in water meter, so a simple flush of the toilet or run of the faucet can start a regeneration once a tank has softened its share of water. Because of its twin-tank design, one tank keeps supplying soft water while the other regenerates. If it seems to regenerate more often than usual, check for leaky plumbing, dripping faucets, or running toilets.
- Can I adjust how soft my water is with the Signature Series 735?
Yes, if your Kinetico Signature Series® 735 was installed with Kinetico's sliding bypass valve, you can blend a small amount of hard water into your soft water. The bypass valve includes a blending feature with an adjustment screw on its housing.
Kinetico recommends opening the blending valve slightly at first, then testing your water over the next couple of days to see if you like the result.
Continue making small adjustments until the water meets your expectations. The same valve also lets you take the softener offline for service: push the blue side of the handle in to bypass, and the red side to return to service. By-pass styles vary, so ask your dealer.
- What should I do if my Signature Series 735 runs out of salt?
If your Kinetico Signature Series® 735 runs out of salt, add salt to the brine tank first, then either wait for the softener to regenerate automatically or start a manual regeneration. To regenerate manually, push down firmly on the softener valve screw with a #2 Phillips screwdriver and slowly turn it clockwise until the indicator dot reaches the "BRINE" position.
You should hear at least five clicks and then water running through the system. Once the water stops, repeat the process so both resin tanks are regenerated. If your water heater refilled with hard water, it may take several days for your water to feel soft again. To avoid this, refill salt before water is visible in the brine tank.
- Does the Signature Series 735 need electricity or programming?
No. The Kinetico Signature Series® 735 is powered entirely by the energy of moving water, so there's nothing to plug in, no buttons to push, and no timers to set or reset.
Instead of electronics, it uses Kinetico's patented non-electric control valve, a built-in water meter, and a SmartDisk™ that your dealer sets for your specific water conditions. Because there are no electrical components, there's nothing electrical to repair or replace.
The 735 regenerates based on your actual water use: more often when you have guests or extra laundry, and not at all while you're on vacation. That keeps salt and water use low.
